The Peak District in England UK
The Peak District is a beautiful part of middle England in Derbyshire, renowned for beautiful moorlands, hills and peaks. The Peak District is popular with walkers and for those who love to be in the countryside and appreciate natural beauty. As well as natural beauty, the Peak District also has a number of bustling towns such as Buxton and Matlock which are well worth a visit.
The two different parts of the Peak District are often referred to as the White Peak and the Dark Peak.
The White Peak is famous for caves and caverns and the Hope Valley. The pretty towns of Matlock and Buxton are within the White Peak area, as is pretty Bakewell. The White Peak includes picturesque Manifold Valley, Hamps Valley, Biggin Dale and Dovedale.
The Dark Peak is known for its wilder landscape with rugged moorlands. The Dark Peak is also often referred to as the High Peak. Derwent Moors are within the Dark Peak as is the Upper Derwent Valley, Bleaklow, Winnats Pass and Kinder Scout.
Staying in a self catering cottage in the Peak District is attractive to many who like the flexibility and homely feeling that a self catering cottage affords. When looking to book a cottage in the Peak District do take time to look up Google maps and locate exactly where the cottage is. If you are looking to explore the Peak District as a whole then it is important to book somewhere central which will allow you to explore both the Dark Peak and the White Peak. Or if you are focusing on just one area – either the White Peak or Dark Peak, then it’s best to book a cottage within one of these specific parts of the Peak District.
